SEO
SEO=Search Engine Optimization. I get the concept although I can't say I know how to execute it. Does anyone think they do this well? Who does it? Admissions? Tech dept.? As an exercise, I typed "private schools new england" in Google and the top results were various associations of New England schools but right there on the first page of returned results was Groton School and Berkshire School. Of the 100's of schools in New England, how do they land at the top? What are they doing right?

I’m just learning about SEO, but I’m told that one reason Berkshire and Groton are high in their rankings, is that they have solid websites with a large amount of word specific content. They also probably pay a large amount to Google adwords. This is something Forman is doing. Google adwords allow you to create small ads and show them on search pages. You might not appear on the first page of the pure search, but your ad will show up on top or on the side in the sponsored section if you are the top bidder for the searched keyword. Example - "private schools New England" would be a high bid price. That means school "A" may have to bid somewhere around $3.00 per click for a top ranking. The $3.00 is the price school "A" would pay if the searcher clicks on your ad. If school "B" wants the top ranking on that page (those keywords), they would have to bid greater than $3.00 for those keywords. Bid prices range from 25 cents for less popular words to $8-$10 for top ones (example "Auto Loans").
